Event 6-Design Sprint

Another successful event by Google Student Club – Sathyabama University. This event was based on the “Design Sprint” method developed by Google.

This time, the venue was our Digital Library, the same place where we conducted Bloggify. The pupil were from all the three years (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and different departments. There were 15 teams of 4 members each which were selected from a number of 78 teams registered for the event on a First Come First Serve basis.
We had a theme to create an app for PMO which was given as a challenge by our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

All the participants were given a small introduction about today’s task.

All of the participants were then taught about the importance of design in an application. The better is the design, the more users you will get. They were shown a comparison between the older way to create a product and the way Google do the same job. The actual meaning of “Design Sprint” was shown to them. The real-life scenario of rush to get a better product was created in front of them.

The rules of the Design Sprint was taught to the participant by our GSA Prashant Kumar Pandey. He showed them how Design Sprint is done, what are all the rules and gave them a challenge to create an android based app which can be used by the PMO officials as well as the citizen on India. All participants were then divided into a team of 4 and were given a time of 45 minutes to bring their idea into life.

The all teams were then set to create their own idea. First they were asked to create individual ideas by each member of their team, then combine their idea into one. As a result of these tasks we got these 15 Crazy 8s

All of the teams were then sent to have their lunch as they got exhausted after a 45 minutes of brainstorming. After the teams were back with full energy, they were ready to present their ideas.

Each team was given a time a 4 minutes to explain their app with their Crazy 8s. They have to present their idea in front of other teams and judges as well. It was a really tough time for the judges to judge all the teams.

As a team finish explaining their Crazy 8s, other participants were given time to ask them questions about their idea which was very interactive.

After the last team have finished their presentation, the judges gave the teams a set of 8 questions.

These questions again make them to scratch their brain.

After these brain tweaking questions, the judges announced the result and the top three teams were selected and were given the certificate of appreciation. One amazing thing happened in this event was the 1st place was occupied by the team of 1st year students, 2nd by 2nd year students and 3rd by 3rd year students.

Finally a crazy Group Pic with all the participants and judges to whom we are thankful to spend their valuable time in judging all the contestants.
